AI in my design practice

TOOLSClaude, Lovable, Gemini, Figma

I use AI to generate and cut concepts fast, build prototypes people can test, and draft copy I can judge against each product's tone.

Ideation

Generate concepts, cut weak ones early

On The Enchanted Clock, Claude's first concept was flat cream rings with emoji faces, and it did not meet my expectations. Lovable rendered two more. I kept the painted direction and rejected the vector versions, which looked flat beside the painting.

Rapid Prototyping

Testable in a weekend

Crumbly went from brief to a working prototype in one weekend. Illustrations were generated with Gemini (Nano Banana). Two people used it to test whether a food journal with spend and favorites was worth opening, and whether one recommendation beat a menu.

UX Copy

Copy that sounds like the product

On The Enchanted Clock, "Event added" became "Mom now gets to relax." I wrote and tested toast and tooltip copy against the storybook tone.

One offer, three framings

I used AI to draft Spanish and German variants of a holiday shopping card, then judged each against the English reference for tone and deal framing. Each variant led with celebration, a deal, or a lifestyle angle, depending on the category.

Text that breaks in German

German compound words broke mid-word in a 116px column. I tested tracking, manual breaks, and smaller sizes. The fix that read correctly to a German speaker was a manual break at the real compound seam, with the smallest size that let the word fit whole at 11px.
